An earthquake took place a little after 9 this morning, measuring 6,1 on the Richter scale in the sea area between the islands of Kythira and Crete. The tremor was felt in Athens.

Traffic is building up on Vasilisis Sofias from the Abelokipoi junction heading towards Syntagma square and on Vasileos Konstantinou street from Arditou, as POEDIN State hospital employees and paramedics are holding a protest at this hour across the HILTON hotel and are marching to the Greek Parliament. POEDIN doctors in Attica are holding 8hour work freeze, until 3 pm. In the rest of the country paramedics are holding a 24hour strike.

The prime minister of Albania, Edi Rama has declared a day of national mourning.

23 people have died and 600 people have been injured after a powerful earthquake of 6.4 magnitude hit Albania in the early hours of Tuesday. Several buildings collapsed, burying residents in the rubble.

Schools in the country have been closed for the day, and flights from Tirana’s airport suspended because of damage to the building.

Prime Minister Edi Rama promised that rescuers would «continue to search patiently and thoroughly to the end».

Greek EMAK rescue teams are assisting Albania. Τhe Athens Medical Association is also sending help.

United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi will visit Athens and the island of Lesvos today and tomorrow.

Grandi is going to meet with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and members of the Cabinet at 5 pm.

Congress has invited US President Donald Trump to its first impeachment hearing on 4 December.
