The first woman to serve as Greece’s ambassador to the United States was greeted with laudatory language by Donald Trump on Thursday, while presenting her accreditations.

The US president received Alexandra Papadopoulou at the White House as the new ambassador of Greece to the United States.

Among others, Trump also referred to the excellent and particularly strong bonds between America and Greece, which have recently been reinforced by greater military, economic and strategic cooperation.

He also cited Greece’s role as an axis for stability in the eastern Mediterranean, as well as his strong support for the Greece-Israel-Cyprus cooperation.

The death of a Chinese doctor who tried to issue warnings about the deadly coronavirus outbreak has sparked an unprecedented level of public anger and grief in China.

The Chinese government had previously admitted to «shortcomings and deficiencies» in its response to the virus which has now killed 636 people and infected more than 31 thousand in mainland China.

Seventeen people died in Greece this week from the annual wintertime outbreak of influenza, raising the total number of flu fatalities to 38, Greece’s National Public Health Organization (EODY) said on Thursday.
